Our History
The Custom House, nestled on the canal side in Bowling Village, holds a rich history dating back to the mid-18th century. Situated between a steep hill and the Firth of Clyde, it once served as a bustling harbor, facilitating trade and commerce in the region. However, with the advent of modernization in the rail and motorway networks, the area underwent significant transformation. In 2016, a remarkable effort led to the conservation and regeneration of the local viaduct, funded by £273,600 awarded to the Scottish Waterways Trust. This revitalization breathed new life into the once derelict surroundings, creating a tranquil space for visitors to wander and immerse themselves in the serenity of the area.
